Fire Pumps - Protect Your Home from Bushfires

Water Tank Material

 Fire Testing Performance

  • 304 Stainless Steel: Best performance. Survived 30 minutes of direct fire contact without any failure.
  • Corrugated Steel: Moderate performance. Structure stayed intact, but internal plastic lining melted above 65°C, causing water loss.
  • Plastic: Poor performance. Failed completely when exposed to direct flames.

Recommended Tank Protection Systems

  • Drenching Sprinklers: Lowers external heat. Increases tank resilience.
  • Water Spray Systems: Adds a thermal barrier. Safeguards structural integrity.
  • Firefighting Pumps: Maintains high water pressure. Delivers active fire suppression.

How Much Water

 System Water Calculation

  • Formula: Sprinkler LPM x Total Sprinklers = Total LPM
  • Capacity: Store enough water to run the system for at least 1 hour.

Efficiency & Water Supply

  • Town Water: Use this source to top up your storage tank continuously.
  • Recirculation: Plumb water spray systems back into the tank to eliminate waste.
  • Efficiency: Minimises overall water consumption while maintaining high protection levels.

Enhanced Safety

  • Firefighting Pumps: Adds high-pressure flow to boost active fire suppression.

How Many Tank Outlets do I need?

 Tank Outlet Recommendations

  • Dedicated Pump Outlet: Use a 2-inch outlet exclusively to supply your firefighting pumps.
  • Fire Services Outlet: Install a separate, dedicated outlet for emergency services to draw water.
  • System Benefit: Guarantees uninterrupted water supply to your water spray and bushfire protection systems.

SWS

Firefighting Pump Suction Line Adapter

 Connection Options

  • 2-Inch Poly Camlock: Threads directly into your water tank shut-off valve. Requires a 2-inch ball valve on new tank orders.
  • Storz Fitting: Connects directly to a standard RFS Storz 65 valve for emergency services.
  • Foot Valve: Draws water from open sources like swimming pools, creeks, or dams.

Pump Defender

Features

  • Active Cooling: Incorporates an adjustable water spray system to cool the operational area.
  • Fuel Vaporisation Control: Lowers localized temperatures to significantly reduce fuel vaporisation risks.
  • Ignition Prevention: Cools the hot exhaust muffler to minimise the chance of surrounding vegetation catching fire.
  • System Longevity: Safeguards the firefighting pump, which serves as the core of your bushfire protection framework.

Pump Outlet Adapter

 Specifications

  • Multi-Port Configuration: Requires 3 to 4 outlet ports, to fit 50mm (2"), 40mm (1.5"), or 25mm (1") sizes.
  • Pressure Shut-Off Valve: Features an integrated valve to reduce or completely close water pressure to nozzles or sprinklers.
  • Storz & Camlock Adapters: Available in 25mm Storz, 25mm Camlock, and 20mm Camlock configurations to match your hose setups.
  • RTG System Integration: Utilises 20mm Poly Camlocks, engineering an exact fit for active bushfire water spray systems.

Suction Hose and Fittings

 Specifications

  • Suction Port Optimization: Large suction ports maximize water volume. Any line restriction reduces overall system output.
  • GX200 Pump Configuration: Available with either a 40mm (1.5") or 50mm (2") inlet port.
  • Hose Selection Trade-Off: 40mm hoses offer easier handling and storage. 50mm hoses deliver maximum flow rates for water spray systems.
  • Four Connection Sets Available:
    • Camlock Kit: Designed for solid tank valve connections.
    • Storz Kit: Connects directly to tank-mounted Storz emergency fittings.
    • Foot Valve Kit: Engineered for drawing water from open pools or dams.

WATER DISTRIBUTION CIRCUIT

Hose Connector

Selection & Material Guide

  • Selection Strategy: Choose connection fittings based on specific tactical purpose, environment severity, and budget allocations.
  • Poly Camlocks: Standard choice offering exceptional durability and high cost-effectiveness for water spray networks.
  • Brass Garden Connectors: Common choice providing instant compatibility with existing domestic watering equipment.
  • Forged Aluminium Storz: Premium German-made connectors preferred by Australian Fire Services for ultimate durability in extreme conditions.

Hose Material

 Hose Protection & Thermal Defence

  • Heavy-Duty PVC: Affordable and durable domestic standard. External sprinkler spray cools the outside while internal water flow protects the core from hot embers. Offers reliable performance within active water spray protection zones.
  • Crusader Sabre Canvas: Premium Australian-made, rot-resistant lay-flat canvas hose designed for high-demand firefighting pumps. Weeps water along the outer jacket to create a self-shielding thermal barrier against intense heat and direct flames.

Hose Diameter

 Hose Diameter & Pressure Dynamics

  • Portable Water Spray Systems: 12mm (0.5") and 20mm (0.75") heavy-duty PVC options are recommended for our Rainmaker Sprinklers.
  • Standard Deployment Sizes: 25mm (1") and 20mm (0.75") diameters are the industry standards for general mobility and rapid deployment.
  • Flow & Friction Management: Hydraulic demand dictates hose size. Longer line runs require larger diameters to prevent friction-induced pressure drops.
  • Pump Optimization: Proper diameter matching ensures firefighting pumps deliver their maximum rated volume and nozzle pressure.

Hose Size to your Sprinklers

 Minimum Hose Diameter Requirements

  • Pump-to-Splitter (Drenchers): Requires a minimum 12mm hose.
  • Pump-to-Splitter (Soakers): Requires a minimum 20mm hose.
  • Pump-to-Splitter (Saturators): Requires a minimum 20mm hose.
  • Splitter-to-Sprinkler: Uses a minimum 12mm hose for both configurations.
  • Performance Impact: Guarantees optimal water pressure for pumps and spray infrastructure.
