Fire Fighting Pumps Save Homes

Imagine having a bushfire moving towards your home, and having a water tank with 10,000 litres or a swimming pool with 90,000 litres of water but no way to use it for bushfire protection systems? The average pool holds the same amount of water as 10 Cat 6 appliances! Protect your home and valuables with the water stored in your backyard swimming pool. Our ember defense system, featuring a rainmaker sprinkler and a 36M fire hose that utilizes your pool's water, acts like a fire truck already on the scene, ensuring effective fire fighting pumps are at your disposal. A standalone off-grid gutter-mounted system just makes sense.

During tank testing, the 304 stainless water tanks demonstrated impressive durability, surviving fire contact for 30 minutes without failing. While corrugated steel tanks maintained their integrity, the plastic lining failed above 65', leading to water loss, and plastic tanks ultimately failed when exposed to direct flame. Incorporating bushfire protection systems, such as drenching sprinklers, can effectively reduce heat and enhance your tanks' resilience, while utilizing fire fighting pumps and water spray systems can further safeguard against fire damage.

Our sprinklers are designed with water efficiency in mind, making them a key component of effective bushfire protection systems. To calculate the amount of water used, simply multiply the Litres Per Minute of each sprinkler by the number you have; this will give you the system water usage per minute. We recommend having the capacity to supply your sprinklers for at least 1 hour. Don't forget, if you are on town water, you can top up your tank. Additionally, the water spray systems can circulate back to your tank if plumbed correctly, ensuring efficient use. For enhanced safety, consider incorporating fire fighting pumps to boost your overall fire protection strategy.

We recommend a dedicated 2 inch tank outlet to supply your fire fighting pumps, along with a separate outlet for the fire services to draw water. This setup will help maintain an uninterrupted water supply for your bushfire protection systems, ensuring optimal performance of your water spray systems.

Our GX200 pump offers either a 1 1/2" or 2" inlet; while the 1 1/2" hose is easier to handle and store, we recommend using the 2" for maximum pump output to optimize your water spray systems. Four fitting sets are available: the foot valves are designed for drawing from a pool or dam, the camlock (pictured) is ideal for a tank, and the storz fitting connects to a tank’s storz fitting.

For fire fighting pumps, German-made forged aluminium Storz connectors are preferred by Australian Fire Services for good reason; they are durable and the best choice for use in heavy conditions, although they are the most expensive option we offer.

We recommend this hose for fire fighting pumps, as it weeps water to shield the hose from heat and flames. These hoses are trusted by fire services for their effectiveness in water spray systems.

The hose diameters most common in bushfire protection systems are 25/1" and 20/0.75"; these sizes are readily available and easily deployed, making them convenient to drag around. We use and recommend 12/0.5" and 20/0.75" PVC garden hoses with our water spray systems, as once set up, there is little need to move them. The volume and pressure of water required for effective fire fighting pumps dictate the hose diameter, and longer lengths of hose should be larger in diameter to minimize pressure loss caused by friction.

Minimum hose diameter for bushfire protection systems from pump to splitter: Drenchers require a 12mm hose, while Soakers need a 20mm hose. For the connection from the splitter to the sprinkler, both Drenchers and Soakers utilize a minimum hose diameter of 12mm. These specifications are crucial for the optimal performance of fire fighting pumps and water spray systems.
